OUR PURPOSE
We are coming together to make our collective voices heard as we seek accountability & change at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. A recent investigation by the Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has found that Cedars-Sinai Medical Center had “some knowledge of the systemic issues plaguing Black maternal health throughout the nation and the state, as well as birthing issues present at Cedars-Sinai,” according to the letter sent from OCR to Cedars-Sinai on November 12, 2024.

Irth, as in Birth but we dropped the B for bias, is the first of its kind “Yelp-like” platform designed for Black and brown women and birthing people to leave and find ratings and reviews of maternity doctors, hospitals, and pediatricians. Irth’s anonymized reviews and collective experiences are transformed into powerful data to drive transparency and accountability within health systems. The groundbreaking Birth Without Bias (BWB) Hospital Improvement program, centers Black patient feedback, to create more respectful and equitable care.

Video from : Kimberly Turbin. This was taken from her birthing experience in Cedars-Sinai Tarzana that shows clear abuse towards people of color in the hospital.
The report further states that, “Given these findings and the reality of Black birthing outcomes, Cedars-Sinai has acknowledged the necessity for “commitment, investment and innovation to produce meaningful, measurable change” to improve Black maternal health nationally, locally, and at Cedars-Sinai.”
Cedars-Sinai was given 30 days to respond and to date, has not. We believe that they are choosing to be non-responsive, thinking this situation will go away when the Biden Administration leaves office.
But Cedars-Sinai needs to know that WE, the people, the patients, and the survivors of their discriminatory practices are not going away. We will not stand by and let more mothers lose their lives during routine health procedures. We will continue to work to ensure that moms come home with their babies.
